What is a PAN application acknowledgement number?
When you apply for a new PAN card or submit a correction request through Protean or UTIITSL, a unique acknowledgement number is generated on successful submission.
For Protean applications, this is a 15-digit number. For UTIITSL applications, it is a 9-digit coupon number.
It is sent to your registered email ID (for online applications) or printed on a physical receipt (for offline applications). This number is all you need to track your application.
What are the PAN application statuses?
Received/Under process: Your application has been submitted and is being reviewed.
PAN allotted: A PAN has been assigned to you. If you applied for an e-PAN, it is available for download immediately. If you applied for a physical card, it will be dispatched separately.
Dispatched: Your physical PAN card has been printed and shipped via courier. A tracking number is available in the status. Delivery typically takes 3–7 working days after dispatch.
Application rejected: The application was not approved. The reason is usually displayed alongside this message.
Common causes include a mismatch between the application form and supporting documents, an unclear photo or signature, or an attempt to apply for a duplicate PAN. You will need to re-apply after correcting the issue.
No record found/Invalid acknowledgement number: Either the number entered is incorrect, or the application was submitted very recently (status updates can take up to 24 hours to reflect). Verify the number from your receipt or email and try again.
How long does PAN card processing take?
Processing typically takes 15–20 working days from the date of submission, provided the documents are in order. After the PAN is allotted, an e-PAN is available for immediate download. The physical card is dispatched separately and takes an additional 3–7 working days to arrive.
